Our Business Model
The OXUS Group seeks to provide its clients in developing countries with adapted, competitive financial services while offering its investors attractive financial returns. OXUS is committed to having a positive social and environmental impact on the lives of its clients and the societies in which its microfinance institutions (MFIs) operate.
Microfinance at the heart of development
From its outset, OXUS has been a corner stone of ACTED’s development strategy, by providing beneficiaries access to credit and opportunities to reach economic and social independence. As such, the OXUS Group’s activities are part of a broader human development framework, and our dual objectives to achieve economic performance and social development go hand in hand. In order to guarantee the social focus and the financial sustainability of the OXUS Group, ACTED will remain a leading stakeholder.

ACTED works as a “breeding ground” for OXUS. After providing humanitarian assistance and managing emergency situations, ACTED often strengthens its intervention by implementing microfinance projects in its countries of operation. OXUS then sets up greenfield MFIs to take over these successful microfinance initiatives and the corresponding portfolios. Operating on a profit-driven business model, these new MFIs are able to access further funding and therefore extend their outreach to more numerous customers. OXUS benefits from ACTED’s experience and logistical resources when launching its operations in a new country. OXUS is proud to be able to operate in post emergency contexts where the acute need for microfinance services contrasts with the near absence of MFIs.
A strong ethical commitment
The OXUS Group is committed to giving access to credit to those who need it themost. Geographical, social and gender outreach plays a key role in the strategies of OXUS MFIs: 40% of all OXUS clients are women and a vast majority of loans are disbursed to small farmers and rural populations. OXUS offers its clients a variety of individual and group loan products that are adapted to their very needs.
OXUS is committed to protecting its clients from potentially harmful financial products and to ensuring that they are treated fairly at all stages of the loan cycle. The OXUS Group thus adheres to the Smart Campaign for Client Protection. Concrete measures have been taken and are being developed to ensure that basic Client Protection Principles are respected. The OXUS Group is a transparent organization, and is committed to communicating openly with its clients, investors and other stakeholders. One of OXUS’ key objectives is to ensure good governance in order to achieve high degrees of accountability and financial compliance to stakeholders. The OXUS Group has joined the Microfinance Transparency campaign to promote transparent pricing in the Microfinance industry.
