OXUS Afghanistan was delighted by the visit of the President during the International Agriculture Fair Exhibition

OXUS Afghanistan participated in Agriculture Fair Exhibition which was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock and supported by USAID.

As one of the biggest microfinance institutions of the country, OXUS Afghanistan is committed in the development of agriculture. By providing loans to small farmers, OXUS gives them the opportunity to invest in their agri-business in order to improve the quality and the quantity of their goods.

During the exibition H.E Mr. Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, President of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and other high ranking officials visited OXUS’ pavillion.

The International Agricultural Fair hosted Afghan and international venders, showcasing the country’s crown jewels of agriculture, such as grapes, pomegranates, dried fruits, nuts, cashmere, and other high value crops and agricultural services.

The exibition provided business opportunities to identify prime agri-business investment opportunities, network with hundreds of leading business representatives, participate in business-to-business match-making meetings, explore profitable markets and business sectors, gain valuable information from policy makers and business leaders, learn about the latest technology at the AgFair’s productivity center, promote insurance culture in Afghanistan, showcase products and new technologies and forge business deals in the country’s expanding agriculture sector.

The future of Afghanistan’s agricultural sector depends on expanding the customer base beyond Afghanistan’s borders. USAID has helped open new markets to Afghan goods by helping farmers meet international packaging and shipping standards and by organizing international agricultural trade fairs. This year’s participants included importers, exporters, wholesalers, retailers, producers, input suppliers, and service providers from throughout Afghanistan as well as from countries including the United States, China, Germany, India, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, and the United Arab Emirates.

OXUS Afghanistan has reached 20,000 active clients

Entrepreneurship in Afghanistan benefits from micro credit: the microfinance institution OXUS Afghanistan has reached 20,000 clients in February 2016

One figure: 20 000. Which represents the number of micro entrepreneurs currently financed by OXUS in Afghanistan. The microfinance institution of the OXUS network was founded in 2007 by the French NGO ACTED and has been present for almost 10 years in Afghanistan. Its clients are the small Afghan merchants, craftsmen and farmers who participate in the country’s reconstruction, in rural as well as urban areas.

OXUS Afghanistan is present throughout the country thanks to a network of 17 branches and 369 employees. Today, 20 000 clients of which almost 50% live in unprivileged rural areas benefit from an average loan amount of around 400 euros. In 10 years, over 100 000 loans have been granted by OXUS Afghanistan and therefore testify of the microfinance institution’s continuous commitment towards the population most excluded from the traditional banking system.

OXUS Afghanistan’s mission is to provide sustainable and tailored financial services to the working poor and underbanked in order to improve sustainably its clients’ livelihoods.

Reaching this symbolic figure is a true testimony of the strong impact of the OXUS programmes in the field, especially with the Afghan population in a post-conflict country. A country where support to economic development is the remaining bulwark against the mass exodus Afghanistan is experiencing today.
